Mary and Martha – A Christian Biblical Poem

“Hurry up now, get that quick.”

“It’s coming soon, here’s the clock ticking?”

Martha ran everywhere, shouting her orders to everyone.

“Put fresh water in that vase!”

“Oh no, that chair is out of place”

“Sweep the floor, wash the dishes, prepare a lunch of bread and fish.”

Martha ran, from one side to the other, making everything perfect.

“I see a mud stain on my floor, get the mop, oh, here’s some more.”

“Drink some water, make a stew, don’t worry, I know what to do.”

“Oh God, where could Mary be? I need help now, can’t you see?”

“Maria!” Martha called once more. She then hurried out the door.

“I bet he’s out there having fun, playing dance in the sun.”

“While I’m here running fast, cleaning until I pass out”

“Forget about her, there’s no time to lose, I have to finish” he said quickly.

“Is dinner ready?” she asked Miss Sue, “Same old bread, that’ll never do”

“I want something fresh and new!”

As sweat dripped from his forehead, he heard someone speaking now.

Turning left, walking fast, he saw Mary sitting sweetly.

Listening, sitting there, right at the feet of Jesus.

“Mary,” he called out in clear frustration, “rest is not your business!”

“Jesus, please forgive Maria for not helping me, I’ve called her twice, don’t you see?”

“Martha” said Jesus, “get some rest, come here and sit down”

“Come on, your work can wait, that’s fine, it’s not too late”

Martha complied and sat down, a smile breaking from her last frown.
