How to remove hair dye from bathrooms and bathroom tiles

If you recently dyed your hair and unfortunately managed to apply some hair dye to your bathroom or tub tiles, there are several things you can try to remove it.

Before you begin, you must remember that you do not want to remove any enamel from your tile coating. Porcelain and ceramic tiles often have a high-gloss finish that you don’t want to damage. If you do, your tiles will look matted and worn. You can also scratch them.

Also, be sure to test patch a small area on an invisible or unnoticeable tile. (Even better, use a replacement tile that is not on your bathroom wall – we at Builder Superstore recommend adding 10% of your order on top to account for spares, breaks, and replacements.)

-If you can, wipe as much hair dye off the bathroom or tub tiles as soon as it happens. Spray with hairspray and wipe.

-If you have hair dye stains in your bathroom, fill it with water and bleach, and let it soak overnight. (Be sure to keep the area well ventilated.)

-You can buy specialized products like Scrubbing Bubbles (used in many salons) or Magic Eraser. (Be sure to do test patches).

-If you have marble tiles in your bathroom, you can use rubbing alcohol to remove them.

-Peroxide gel or a bleaching pen can also be used to remove hair dye from porcelain or ceramic tiles.

-You can also buy (at a high cost) a color remover from a hairdresser. This is used to remove hair dye so it can work on tile as well.

-Cigarette ash mixed with a little water has also been cited as a useful method of removing stain from tiles.

– If you have hair dye in your tile grout, this can easily be put back on top. Be sure to also seal the grout to make sure it is waterproof.

-DO NOT USE LEMON JUICE.

All in all, be sure to seek the opinion of a professional, test patches, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
