1. FORGET ABOUT SHORTCUTS – In an age of instant gratification, many are drawn to the idea of getting abs FAST and they want it NOW. Unfortunately, microwave methods of getting those abs are never sustainable. While muscle enhancers or protein shakes can speed up the process, taking such supplements cannot be the end in itself and can never replace hard and dedicated training.
2. FIGHT THOSE FATS FIRST – A common mistake that many make when they are desperate for those washboard abs is to rush straight into the abs workout. Since our fat cells are located closer to our skin than to our muscles, hours of daily abs training without fat burning training will NEVER produce results. Get rid of those fats and those abs will show.
Good cardio exercises include running, swimming, or bicycling. Make sure you are working at 70-75% of your maximum HR for at least 30 minutes per session.
3. FOOD DISCIPLINE – Having a disciplined diet is an impetus to answer the question of ‘how to get abs’. While regular abdominal and cardio exercises are like a train, a good meal plan serves as the railroad to get you to your destination.
No amount of abdominal exercises will work if your daily calorie intake is still higher than you can burn. A good rule of thumb is to eat more but smaller meals.
The reason is simple: our bodies can only take in and absorb a limited amount of food every few hours. The excess is simply stored as fat. In addition to splitting meals, cutting back on abs killers like fast food, sugary drinks, and snacks are just as important.
Last but not least, building abs takes time, dedication, and discipline. Those who already have their perfect abs will not fail to testify how difficult it is to maintain those ripped abs. What you gain after weeks and months of training can be lost in just a few days if you don’t have a physical lifestyle.
