The price of garage sales is usually negotiable. With this in mind, remember to price some more expensive items a bit more than you expect to get. If you want to get $10 for an old lamp, you might want to price it at $12.50 in the expectation that the buyer will haggle with you to lower the price.

Be careful not to overprice an item, as it could turn buyers away.

How much for the lot?

If you have some items that you can’t trade in your sale, it might be a good idea to batch them and a few more desirable items.

So you can combine two shirts that won’t sell themselves with two shirts that will appeal more to the buyer. It offers one price for items sold separately (same price for each shirt) and a second reduced price for the bundle that offers a great bargain. In fact, all you’re doing is getting the value of the two desirable shirts and some cash for the less desirable items.

Rule of thumb: never underestimate the price of your garage sale

If the garage sale is going to last a few days, it’s a good idea to put higher prices on items to start with. There’s a chance you’ll sell items for more than you bargained for!

Items that don’t sell for the highest price can be reduced as the days go by, offering buyers more bargains and getting at least some cash for things you’re willing to drop.

Just remember, the golden rule is not low price because you can always lower the price later if someone wants to haggle.
