Do you crave more?

Do you crave more?

I recently saw a video on social media that made me think about how often we yearn for more. Wanting more isn’t always a bad thing, but we certainly need to put our desires in perspective.

The video I’m referring to showed a cartoon person driving a fancy sports car looking up at the sky, seeing a helicopter and thinking, “I wish I had a helicopter.” In addition to the person in the luxury sports car, there was another man who was driving an SUV and thinking, “That’s my dream car, I wish I had that.” In addition to the person in the SUV, there was another person in a regular car who was thinking, “I’ve always wanted an SUV.” Also, the person in the normal car was a person in a beat-up car thinking, “I wish I had a new car.” A person riding a bicycle next to the beat-up car was thinking, “I wish I had a car.” A person at a bus stop was standing next to the person with the bike thinking, “I wish I had a bike.” A person in a wheelchair was looking over a balcony at the man standing and walking at the bus stop saying, “He can go wherever he wants, I wish I could do that.”

This demo shows how we crave more, but even when we have more, it’s rarely satisfying. Think of all the times you wished you had something more, but when you received it, the satisfaction only lasted a few moments.

In addition to that video, I read an article not long ago about a basketball player who signed a contract worth over $100 million. This particular player said that he was spending time in Europe in one of the most luxurious hotels, and through his high-rise window, he saw another famous person with a yacht at sea having a private party. This basketball player wanted to do something like that.

A lot of people are like that to some degree. Some think, “If only I could do this or that, I would be happy.”

Once again, material things can rarely satisfy your desires. Many times we look at what others have and wish that we had it too. But, even after you get those things, life is only better for a short time. Since I work in the Human Resources field, I simplify this analogy by comparing it to getting a raise. A raise is only exciting when you look at your first paycheck, after that it’s an expectation.

We all yearn for what we feel is best for us. I can tell you that we will not find the best here on earth. The earth is a temporary abode for those who put their faith in Jesus Christ.

I think heaven is what we really long for.

Heaven is a paradise where there is no more pain or suffering.

You can get there by accepting Jesus into your life as your lord and savior. That step will propel you to the path of the fulfillment you long for.

I am interested in goals, achievements and fulfillment, just like Jesus. He came to earth so that we might have life and have it to the full. Accepting it can lead you to a life where you no longer want material things, but long for heaven.
