What can a flying Monkey do for you? This is the one aircraft that I am personally obsessed with. Flying a Monkey is not as common as it used to be, but I am sure there are still plenty of qualified pilots flying these difficult to operate, high-wing aircraft. There are plenty of blogs and articles around the Internet discussing this exciting project as well.

Flying Monkey Delta by Bill Dennison and Steve Berry is the latest release of this highly successful and popular concept airplane. The creation of this aircraft took over two years to complete, starting out as a small machine for the RC flying club in Bill’s backyard. After some extensive testing and research, the design was approved for production and the first production model was ready for its maiden flight. It is now up for sale, and the waiting is finally over.

Flying Monkey Delta offers an exhilarating and adventurous flying experience for novice to expert level flyers. It can be flown in just minutes, but requires a skilled pilot and engine. A standard model is roughly the same size as the Beechcraft Model Tech Xps. If you would like to build your own version, there are many plans available, including those designed specifically for the Xps. Bill’s website provides instructions on building the aircraft and includes parts availability.

If you are the type of person who enjoys trying new things, but still has the zeal of a true pilot, this is one project that will meet all your expectations. It is very forgiving, stable, and easy to fly, although the complexity of the flight is not for everyone. There are plenty of instructional videos available to help you get the hang of the controls and how to control the airplane. If you prefer to have someone with you flying the Monkey, there is a “pilot” ready option that is also included with the sale.

As I mentioned before, it can be flown by anyone who is reasonably fit and confident enough to operate a RC airplane. The one I flew myself had only been in the air for a month before I took it out for a spin. Surprisingly, it performed well and even stayed on the ground after a couple of dozen flights. This may be a fluke, but you never know.

As always, be sure to pre-order your Flying Monkey Delta Beechcraft kit before it gets released in mass quantities. (This also ensures that you will be one of the first to get your hands on it.) And, most importantly, have fun! If you love flying anything that flies, this is a hobby that you won’t ever forget.
