Drinking Lipton Peach Flavored Tea for Acid Reflux Cure

There are many home remedies for acid reflux disease or GERD. Perhaps one of the most popular fast-acting cures is drinking Lipton peach flavored tea as a cure for acid reflux. Having heard of this particular “cure” from various sources, I thought it might make sense to analyze it for the facts.

First of all, it is important to note that the so-called cure is very specific: it does not have any tea flavor, it is decidedly peach. When I researched peaches, I discovered that there is a clear reason: peaches, like apricots and broccoli, are very high in fiber. Fiber is an insoluble carbohydrate, which basically means that it is difficult, if not completely impossible for your body to digest, which is why it has a tendency to move food quickly through your digestive system. This acceleration of the digestive system can help eliminate food from your system and, as a result, reduce acid in the stomach. In fact, this can prevent some people from having acid reflux attacks.

The reason you want to drink Lipton’s peach flavored tea instead of eating an apricot is twofold. First, the warm liquid has a calming effect on your stomach. This can help take some of the burden off the digestion process. Plus, it doesn’t add bulk to your stomach, which could, again, churn up some of the acids and make your situation worse.

While the theory behind this is sound, the fact is that peach flavored tea is probably not as good a remedy as a fast-acting antacid for sudden attacks. To get a lot of fiber from fruit, you actually have to eat some of the fruit. The tea will contain some fiber that was extracted during brewing, but it’s a small amount that probably doesn’t contain enough to make a difference. While the benefit of drinking tea will do a few things on its own, you can probably see the same effects when drinking any flavor of tea, not just lipton peach flavored tea for acid reflux.
